2013: Reflections

As the year comes to an end, it is time to reflect upon the events that have gone by in the last twelve months. It has been a wonderful year for most of the part. However, one should recount the ups and downs and learn from the mistakes committed in the past year. Here, I try to reflect upon the events in the important aspects of my life.

Work wise, it has been a fruitful year. This was the year when I really got into the work, and started liking it. I have reached a point where I want to learn more and contribute more. Being involved in a commercialization project was really another experience. Co-working with different people, testing different issues, working late nights etc. It was a whole new experience. At the same time, it was kind of difficult to work late on few days, given the fact that I am used to sleeping very early. But one has to sacrifice some things for the greater good. I also got an award at work. That really added some confidence to me. I do hope that these efforts pay off and I get some good hike next year :)

I have made some really good friends this year too. Most of them are at work and it is really good to hang out with them at work. At the same time I was blocked out by another dear friend due to my own stupidity. I am going to regret that for some time to come. But things do happen, and one has to move on. That will be the goal for the new year. Get over the past and start a new present.

One sad thing is that I have not been able to read as much as I would have liked to. Only about 8 books in the whole year and that is really bad pace, considering my past record. Also, none of the books I read in the year have been as outstanding as my earlier ones. I hope in the new year I can read better literature, one that will stay with me for a long time.

Another bad part was my writing. I know I am not that good a writer, but I really had to write more blog posts in the year. This is going to be the second post I write in this year. Which is very bad, given that fact that at one time I used to write 2-3 entries in a month. Something to improve in the new year again.

I was pretty dejected, with the sports teams I support getting trashed everywhere. Particularly, the Australian Cricket Team, which I support lost in India and England. But it was cheerful to see them winning the Ashes at the end of the year. That too by literally trashing the English team. And with Rafael Nadal winning few more grand slams, it was just a treat.

Well, that is about the year going by, with the only regret being the loss of a good friend.

It is also the time to look up to the oncoming year and set some goals for the new year. So, for the goals of 2014 would be,

1. Read more books. Difficult to put a number, but at least one per month. Possibly I can hack this one by getting some short books in the mid. It would be like spinners bowling more overs to keep up with the over rate.
2. Write more. Both in my books and the blog.
3. Learn more technical things and coding techniques.
4. Travel and meet more people. Make some long lasting friendships.

Four goals are enough for a year I guess. These along with the other micro goals from time to time will make the year fruitful I hope.

  1. Get ready for another 'bad year in the office' for Australian Cricket Team

  2. Very well written...
wish you good luck for your 4 resolutions....will keep track of the books by end of every month (just to give you a check ;))

  3. @Nitisha, thank you. It would be helpful

  4. Making resolutions is always fun- 365 days waiting to be filled with great things! :)

Hope you have a great year ahead. All the best!
